Well my fine folks……..The Final Chapter needs to be written. A chapter that has brought an end to our golfing season as a large group golfing together. I’m not quite sure where to begin…..I guess my normal introduction would suffice so here goes……
Greetings and Salutations to all those out there reading this in golfing land. Hope all is good. Well everything was a far cry from normal this past Saturday at our Brothers 6th Annual Invitational Golf Tournament and Family BBQ/Silent Auction. I do hope this email finds each and every one of you nice and dry as the same could not be said for the 104 drenched courageous and gritty golfers that tee it up this past Saturday, during the staging of the Brothers Invitational Final Tournament for the season.
Of the 31 teams that tee off that morning, only a handful managed to complete the required 18 holes before the skies opened up and stayed opened and soaked our gallant golfers. In an anti-climatic kind of way, our golfing season of our 3 MAJORS and our 6th Annual Invitational came to a close without the usual fanfare of the gleaming smiles on stage receiving their well earned trophies for such events as the longest drive or closest to the pin, the best dressed or even the most honest golfer etc, or even the sound of kids screaming and bouncing, jumping up and down in bouncy tents, no smell of BBQ chicken/ribs permeating the air for all the neighbours to envy……..None of that could of taken place at the Breedys’ Backyard this past Saturday as Mother Nature once again proved who is the Undisputed Grand Champion.
All was not lost as the majority of dripping wet golfers made their way back to the Breedy’s Residence for what was an impromptu evening of eats and drinks, and a house that surely would have been cited for many Fire Codes violations as well over 100+ people coming together, enjoying the delicious food and the fine company and fellowship of each other, despite the heavy torrential downpour occurring outside.
In case you were wondering, several of our wet and weary golfers came mighty close to walking away with the $10,000 CASH or one of the other 3 Fabulous PRIZES in Hole in One Contest, but I’m afraid Lady Luck as well as the Sun was not shining on this day.
Lady Luck was however shining on one group of individuals on this golfing day, and that Lucky group would be:
THE CHILDREN OF CAMP JUMOKE
Friends, when all is said and done, rain or no rain, through your golfing efforts and participation over the past 4 months in The Trini Open (May), The Bajan Open (June), The Jammy Open (July) and last Saturday 6th Annual Invitational, our little golfing group have managed to raise so far in excess of just over:
$6000.00+
Of particular note here, this money raised so far is without any money being taken in from the Silent Auction. The silent auction like the BBQ was cancelled due to the inclement weather. Which means we have some wonderful DONATIONS/PRIZES still sitting in my basement awaiting their respective bidders.
.
So what does this mean…..well, the Fab Fore has made an executive decision to host an On-Line Auction for the many donations many of you kindly donated.
All of you will have the opportunity to bid on the many donations over the next couple of weeks. Stay Tuned for more details regarding description of items etc and be sure to show your support for Camp Jumoke by putting a bid or two on the many items up for bid. If for some odd reason you have donated a Prize or made a financial donation to Camp Jumoke but your name does not appear on this list, please be sure to let me know and I will ensure it is added on for when we update our website as your name or your company’s name will be on the Brothers’ website for the balance of the 2008 and all of 2009 for all to see and appreciate your contributions.
Be sure to check out the attachment “Those Other Winner” to see who walked away with all the hardware and who was crowned Best Dressed Golfer and Best Dressed Team and many other countless Awards, including the first recipient of The Brenda Johnson Jammy Open Memorial Award….
As is our customary, let’s take a moment to extend a heartfelt welcome all those golfing with us for the first time. We love new golfers because for the most part they always come back and bring a friend or two or even three. It was again another record breaking crop of newcomers that included: Tony Chen, Fred Karam, Maze Jamal, Ian Forbes, Tony Craig, Ossie Warrington, Paul Mazzalie, Brian Wilson, Lady Caroline Williams, Lady Karen Richards, Patrick Lall, Brian Hazlewood, Roosevelt Austin, Ivor Holloway, Terrence Holloway, Al Beach, Lady Janette Young, Lady Everette Young, Robert Young, Lloyd Brown, Noel Brown Tyrone Watters, Naz Hosein, and last but certainly not least, all the way from Bermuda, Mr Curtis Ballantyne. So to all the newbies, go and tell all your friends about the warm felt brotherhood and sisterhood that you experienced golfing with our little group (just leave the part about the rain out) and we hope to see you all out again golfing with us next May ’09.
Our resident and professional sports photographer Chris have some superb pixs for all to see the fashions and action shots of many of our golfers and also be sure to check out the shots from photographer in training, Ian, as he was the official clicker at impromptu get together at the Breedy’s residence. http://sportsnaction.exposuremanager.com/g/thebrothers6thannualgolftournament2008
So you can see folks, not even Mother Nature in her fury (3 out of our 4 tournament it rained) could keep us from achieving one of our goals this summer and that was to raise over $6000.00 from the $4900.00 we raised in ’07. On behalf of the 40 children stricken with Sickle Cell that just came back from Camp Jumoke this past Saturday, Thank You!!!
In closing, some wonderful and hard working individuals I would like to thank and recognize for their above and beyond efforts this past Saturday: At the course, our fashion police and beautiful registration ladies (Lady Jackie, Lady Pamela, Lady Claudette and my much better half, Lady Astrid. Our official $10,000 hole official, Lady Yvette and her daughter.
In the kitchen at the Breedy’s residence, (Lady Jacqui, Lady Pam, Lady Lois, my better half again Lady Astrid and finally, and chef extraordinaire, Lady Miss Millie)
I would be remiss if at this time I did not recognize my fellow Fab Fore Members (Chris, Ian, Hayden, Richard and Fred) for all their work this summer in staging these tournaments. Each member brings a different talent to this group and for 6 years now we have managed to stage these tournaments with a true sense of organized professionalism that keeps many of you coming back tournament after tournament. This year we welcomed Mike Griffith, website/computer genius to the group. Gents, take a bow for another great summer of golf and organization.
One more event to go before we truly close the book on our golfing season for 2008. The 2008 B*RYDER CUP…the “B” is for Brothers….. (Sunday September 21) is being played at the Prestigious Lion head Golf Club in Mississauga (14 Golfers from the East vs. 14 Golfers from the West) selection is just around the corner. If you would like to participate in this exciting climax to the golfing season and you have qualified to play (played in 2 or more of our 4 tournament this summer) please submit your name to me ASAP. This is your first and only call to register for this event.
As Always, With Much Respect and Appreciation for all the efforts golfing this summer……
God Bless |
